Last Saturday, volunteers from PUMP and the community spent the day getting the rain garden in the library’s backyard ready to plant!  Linda and her crew weeded the garden and mulched the path, and Tom cut the grass for the first time this year!  Take a look at our latest pictures!

Meanwhile, inside the building, Ron has been working hard to get the plumbing installed.  Brian and Jan have been hanging the last bits of drywall, and Chris has been taping and finishing the “mudding” of the drywall throughout the library.  All of this is in anticipation of the painting that will begin in April!  Can you believe we are actually looking at installing the carpet this summer?  WOW!

Construction, however, is not the only thing blooming!  Millvale Community Library is very pleased to be offering some programs, too!

The Millvale Community Library is sponsoring a weekly class to help individuals interested in taking the GED.  Classes, which are offered through Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, will be held on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Scotus Hall, located on the Mount Alvernia High School campus in Millvale, PA.  Registration is required.

In conjunction with the 2012 One Book, One Community feature title, This I Believe:  The Stories of Remarkable Men and Women, Shaler North Hills Library and Millvale Community Library will be co-hosting a “This I Believe and Beyond” workshop to engage members of the community to share statements of personal belief.  At each event, participants will put pen to paper and be guided through the process of crafting an essay that reflects their most deeply held personal beliefs. The workshop will be held on April 23, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. • Day of Giving 2011 is October 4, 2011 for Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties!  Both Pittsburgh Gives and Westmoreland Gives days of giving will run simultaneously.

• Gifts will be accepted via MasterCard or Visa Only (no checks, stock or cash).  The credit card processing fee is 2.9%.  The Foundation takes no fees for this program.

• The match pool for 2011 is $725,000 for Pittsburgh Gives and the match pool is $100,000 for Westmoreland Gives

• You can give to organizations in both counties, but each match will be separately prorated.  Your donation will receive a portion of the match pool; this is not a $1-to-$1 match
