The Maria Mongelluzzo Tool Library is a new community resource provided by the Millvale Community Library. It is a collection of hand and power tools, ladders, and more that can be checked out for one week at a time for free.
To check out a tool you must first become a member of the Tool Library. Becoming a member is easy. The Tool Lending Library is FREE. For patrons who reside outside of Millvale, there is a suggested $30 annual donation that helps us collect and maintain our tool collection. You must be at least 18 years of age, be a resident of Allegheny County, and have a valid library card for Millvale, Pittsburgh or any other Allegheny County library. If you meet these requirements then just bring your driver’s license/state ID and a utility bill/lease agreement to confirm your address to the Millvale Community Library. After filling out the member application and a few forms, you’re a member!
Members can check out up to 5 tools at a time during the Tool Library’s hours. A list of our tools is here. You can also search for tools using the library’s online catalog (Hint: Choose material type “other objects” at left to limit the results to just tools.) or look through the binder at the Millvale Community Library’s front desk. Tools must be returned to the Millvale Community Library’s circulation desk during normal hours. If tools are returned late, late fees are $0.25 per day for less expensive tools and $1.00 per day for more expensive ones.
If you’d like to support the Tool Library, please consider volunteering. We need volunteers to staff the desk so that we can expand the Tool Library’s hours. We could also use volunteers who can help with tool maintenance, grant writing, and flyering.
You can also donate tools to the lending library. Specific tools we are still looking for include a table saw, lawnmower, right-angle drill or multi-tool, sliding compound miter saw, rototiller, sump pump, ½” plumber’s snake, tiller, Pulaski, a lightweight bicycle truing stand, and car ramp set. You can drop donations off during regular library hours or contact the library to arrange pick-up.
You can also make financial donations to the Tool Library to help us repair and improve our tool selection. Make checks out to Millvale Community Library: Tool Library or donate with a credit card on our website, http://millvalelibrary.org/about.
