What is the Tool Library?
The Millvale Tool Library is a collection of over 1000 hand and power tools for building, woodworking, home maintenance, gardening, plumbing, cars, bikes, and more! We’ve got table saws, drills, pressure washers, carpet cleaners, shovels, lawn mowers, painting equipment, ladders, and pretty much anything you’re likely to want for your project.
Drop in or call (412) 822-7081 during Tool Library hours to learn more about tools or get advice about a project you may be working on!
How Do I Become a Member?
It’s free, and you just need a Pittsburgh or Allegheny County library card.
If you already have a library card from Pittsburgh or any of the Allegheny County libraries, great—bring it on down, along with proof of your current address (e.g. driver’s license, other photo ID, utility bill or lease agreement).
If you don’t already have a library card, we can sign you up for one as long as you have an acceptable form of photo ID. If your photo ID doesn’t show your current address, you will also need to confirm your address with a utility bill or lease agreement. After filling out the member application, you’re a member!
The Tool Library is free, though we ask patrons who reside outside of Millvale for a $30 annual donation to help us build and maintain the tool collection.
We can only lend tools to adults.
What Tools are Available to Borrow?
You can browse a complete list of our tools, or search the online catalog to check their current availability.
You can also browse using the photo binders at the Millvale Community Library’s front desk.
You can check out up to 5 tools for one week at a time for free. Tools must be returned to our circulation desk during normal hours.
What if I need something that's not in the catalog?
We’re always looking to add to our collection and welcome suggestions. If. you’re working on a project and need something that’s not in our collection, use this form to tell us and we’ll add it to our list of tools to explore acquiring.
How can I Volunteer at the Tool Library?
If you’d like to support the Tool Library, please consider volunteering. Volunteers help in any number of ways, from staffing the front desk, to fixing and maintaining tools, writing grants, helping with promoting the library, or running workshops and events.
Can I Donate Tools and/or Money to Support you?
Yes to both!
You can email us at [email protected] to schedule drop-offs or to arrange pick-up. We’re open to taking a wide range of tools to add to our collection or to sell at our annual tool sale fundraiser. Specific tools we are looking for include an electric concrete saw, sewer scope, hammer drill, carpet installation tools, pop-up canopy, and drywall taping tool. We’d also love to receive more pressure washers, extension ladders, sanders, bench planers, and more! Your donations are tax-deductible.
You can also make financial donations to the Tool Library to help us repair and improve our tool selection. Make checks out to Millvale Community Library: Tool Library or donate with a credit card.
