Morning camp is from 10am – 12pm, and afternoon camp is 12:30pm – 3:30pm. Lunch is free and takes place from 12pm – 12:30pm.
Children’s Museum Makeshop Camp
June 12 – June 14 (Optional Field trip to Children’s Museum Friday, June 15)
In partnership with the Children’s Museum, we will host a teaching artist from the Makeshop to come and lead us in a week of building and material exploration. Past camps have included working with cardboard, weaving, and circuitry. This camp concludes with a field trip to the Children’s Museum on Friday, June 15th, for interested campers. The trip costs $8. Transportation will be provided by MCL staff & volunteers.
June 19 – June 21
Campers will learn about sustainability and local wildlife through exploring Millvale’s Riverfront Park. This camp will involve partnerships with local organizations Allegheny Cleanways, Venture Outdoors, and Apoidea Apiary. Areas of focus will be riverfront safety, trail/riverfront preservation, and sustainable agriculture.
Music and Multimedia Camp
July 10 – July 12
Campers will get the chance to build DIY instruments using recyclable materials, learn about audio recording and electronic instruments, and create their own stop-motion films. A field trip will be taken to see Mr. Smalls Theatre and recording studio, through a partnership with Millvale-based non-profit, Creative Life Support.
Fashion and Fiber Arts Camp
July 17 – July 19
The campers will manipulate a textile using dye and paint, cut out a pattern for a garment of their choice in their size, learn to construct the garment using a sewing machine, and model their creation in a fashion show on the last day of camp.
August 7 – August 9
Teaching artists at local business Ton Pottery in Millvale will help young campers to make mugs, pinch pots, sculptures, and more all while exploring the art and technical processes of pottery making.
Arts and Murals Camp
August 14 – August 16
This camp will explore the visual arts as a vehicle for social change. Campers will learn about different forms of public art, getting the chance to create their own mural, stencils, and paintings. A field trip will be taken to St. Nicholas Croatian Church to learn about the Maxo Vanka murals.
