December Events at the Millvale Library!
December 15th, 12:00 PM: Re-thinking Wrapping Paper
Americans spend more than $7 million on wrapping paper each year! Wrapping paper is inherently expendable and is often thrown away instead of recycled. By reducing the amount of wrapping paper used each year (through making reusable holiday gift bags and by re-purposing the wrapping paper we receive to create useful household objects), we can work toward a more sustainable standard for the holiday season.
The first session, which will involve sewing reusable holiday tote bags, will be Saturday, December 15th from 12-2 pm. The second session which will involve re-purposing recycled wrapping paper into useful household items/decorations will be Saturday, January 5th from 12-2 pm.
Both events are free and all-ages – family participation is encouraged!
December 12th, 6:00 PM: Memory Project Art Opening
You are invited to the MEMORY PROJECT OPENING at the Millvale Library on December 12th, 6-8 PM. Live music, refreshments and pizza will be provided. Admission is $3.00.
“The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty” (Wikipedia). It can create a life-changing experience for the Rohingya children of Myanmar, Shaler Area High School’s art students, and for you! Please consider donating to these children who are facing hardships, loss, and destruction every single day. Just a small donation has the power to change the world and help achieve Shaler’s $675.00 fundraiser goal!
