February 20th, 8:00 PM: Best Book Speed Dating at Howard’s Pub!
Books and Beer! Meet your favorite bookworm at our first ever Best Book Speed Dating event!
This event is a collaboration with Howard’s Pub, located at 142 Grant Avenue in Millvale. Bring your favorite book to Howard’s and have a 1 minute-long summary/pitch ready to share!
February 21st, 6:30 PM: Diversity Book Club
February’s book is Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat by Patricia Williams.
Book Description: Alone at sixteen, Pat was determined to make a better life for her children. But with no job skills and an eighth-grade education, her options were limited. She learned quickly that hustling and humor were the only tools she had to survive. Rabbit is an unflinching memoir of cinematic scope and unexpected humor. With wisdom and humor, Pat gives us a rare glimpse of what it’s really like to be a black mom in America.
Copies of the book are available at the library for pickup NOW! Refreshments will be served at each meeting.
February 23rd, 3:30 PM: Artist Talk with Sharrell Rushin
Join us for a talk with local artist Sharrell Rushin. She will be sharing some of her art and talking about how she creates her work as a form of self discovery and a process of introspection. No registration required. This is a free event!
Description from the artist’s website:
“Rell describes her work as being a reaction to the happenings in international pop culture, her surroundings, and daily life. She uses a variety of mediums to cover a range of subjects such as introversion, African American female identity, black representation in mass media, maladaptive daydreams, and millennial identity.”

This event is part of Millvale Community Library’s celebration of African American History Month. Pittsburgh is filled with amazing artists of all backgrounds and we believe all local artists deserve to have their voice and perspective served.
