Sidewalks and Walkability and Bikes, Oh My!

May 9, 2018

Millvale is honored to be one of the three Greater Pittsburgh communities chosen for Lively Pittsburgh’s Walkability Project. As an initiative of Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh, the project aims to help communities make streets and sidewalks safer and more accessible for all. It does this through community engagement in data collection, and through a lively, pop-up street demonstration called the Crossings.

The Crossings is a lively and fun way to bring attention to the importance of safe intersections for all. The Millvale Crossings will be on Saturday, June 2nd at 3:00 PM on the intersection at Lincoln Avenue and Butler Street, and everyone is welcome to participate! A video will be made of the event for Millvale to use to advocate for positive change! Learn more about the Crossings by watching the East Liberty Crossings video here.

Speaking of June 2nd, there’s another exciting, free event happening: Millvale’s Rally in the Alley Summer Kickoff Party! Bring your bike down to the Millvale Community Library for a day of fun! The entire block of Grant Street from Sheridan to East Sherman Street will be closed off for our festivities, which include a bike obstacle course, safety lessons, and free bikes and helmets for Millvale children. We’ll also have tables, crafts, and other activities for people of all ages and from all over the Pittsburgh area, including:

  • Friends of the Library Bake Sale
  • Al Mazing Strolling Magic
  • Josh and Gab Show
  • North Hills Community Outreach Children’s Craft
  • Pittsburgh Puppetry Guild
  • Blender bike @ Tupelo Honey Teas: 11-3 pm
  • Live music all afternoon
  • Summer Reading Registration inside library all day

…and other guests including the Gardens of Millvale, Millvale Boys and Girls Club, Rolling Pepperoni, Girl Scouts (Reserve Township), Girls Write Pittsburgh, and more!

Both the Crossings and the Rally are free and open to people of all ages and from all over the area!
