Please note that this is a departure from the usual first-Thursday meeting date, as a result of the 4th of July holiday. There will be no Community Meeting in August, 2012. Regular meeting days will resume in September, 2012.

Monday, May 21, 2012: Shaler Area High School’s Spring for the Arts, “Art for Books Event” will be held at the Millvale Community Library from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Come join us for an art show and auction, musical entertainment, food and drinks. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. All proceeds benefit the Millvale Community Library and The Adam Schuster (Memorial) Fund.

Wednesday Evenings, May 2 – June 6, 2012, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.: Please join us for a Lifestory Writing Group on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Developed by Sharon Lippincott, a renowned Pittsburgh author and educator, this six-week program is designed to “allow members to free the flow of memories, develop confidence in their personal writing style, and begin to create their own written legacy of personal history.” The program is co-sponsored by the Shaler North Hills Library and the Millvale Community Library, and will be held at the Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, beginning May 2, 2012.

Future writing groups will be formed based on the interest demonstrated during this initial offering.
April 23, 2012, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: In conjunction with the 2012 One Book, One Community feature title, This I Believe: The Stories of Remarkable Men and Women, Shaler North Hills Library and Millvale Community Library will be co-hosting a “This I Believe and Beyond” workshop to engage members of the community to share statements of personal belief. At each event, participants will put pen to paper and be guided through the process of crafting an essay that reflects their most deeply held personal beliefs. The workshop will be held at Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw.

This workshop will provide a springboard for writers who wish to participate in the Shaler North Hills Library/Millvale Community Library Lifestory Writing Group, which will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning in May, 2012.
Monday, April 9, 2012: Join us at California Pizza Kitchen in Ross Park Mall for lunch or dinner! California Pizza Kitchen will donate 20% of any food purchased (dine-in or take-out) to the Millvale Community Library. Tonight is the final offering of free classes by the Saxifrage School. Tonight’s class will be “Close Knit: A Scarf.” If you ever wanted to learn how to knit, tonight is the night. It’s a PARTY! Join us at the Library from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for a DRYWALL HANGING PARTY!!!! There will be refreshments and LOTS of drywall (thanks to the folks at the Saxifrage School)! No experience is necessary. We can use all of the helping hands we can get!

If you have a child, age 6-12, who is interested in coming to storytime, consider our Riverfront Reading Cooperative. The program is held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Millvale’s Riverfront Park (location subject to change due to weather and prior booking of the facility).
