
Melissa is no stranger to Millvale as she’s lived, worked, played and volunteered here for the past 10 years!
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, she brings a unique spin to the Library with a strong focus on the Community and the People who use our space.
In her free time she enjoys seeing live music with friends and relaxing at home with her dog, Maia, and her cat, Fiona Apple.
Megan grew up in the Crafton neighborhood of Pittsburgh. She has a BA from Chatham University in Arts Administration and Film, and a Masters in Library Science from University of Pittsburgh.
Megan has worked in libraries in Wilkinsburg and Carnegie and is very excited to be part of the team at Millvale.
In her free time, Megan enjoys curling up with a book and her cat, Phil, watching movies, and crafting.


Trevor is a Millvale resident of nine years whose background in accounting and operations informs both his MCL board Treasury position as well as his operations manager role at the MCDC. When he’s not budgeting, Trevor spends as much time as possible in the Gardens of Millvale and the trails around Girty’s Woods. His favorite read this year was Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler!
Sarah currently serves as the Director of Research for the Southwestern Pennsylvania Municipal Project Hub. She holds a PhD in Geography and MUP in Urban Planning. Her dissertation research focused on how the MCL and Millvale Ecodistrict support sustainable development in the community.


Bill didn’t plan on becoming the Program and Volunteer Coordinator at Millvale Community Library, but after years of managing people, schedules, and five kids, he’s found that libraries are the perfect place for his organizational skills and love of community. He’s got a knack for keeping things running smoothly, whether it’s coordinating volunteers or making sure the toilets are working. With a background in customer service, problem-solving, and law, Bill is ready to bring his unique skill set to the library. Plus, he’s got a lifelong love for libraries, so this job feels a little like coming home.
Alison Altemus is the Information & Program Manager for Eden Hall Foundation. She graduated from “library school” in 2011, but found she could serve the community better by working as a board member. She originally joined the Millvale Community Library board in 2017.


Eliza, a Millvale and Reserve local since birth, is working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and attends Community College of Allegheny County. Growing up, her favorite pastime was making trips to the library with her mother. Now, in her free time, she enjoys reading, movies, crafting with various mediums, and connecting with nature.
Lisa has been a member of the MCL team since 2009. Lisa’s passion and love for the MCL is deep seeded. She served on the first Board of Directors during the library’s inception, and also as the library’s first Executive Director after its opening. Lisa is a retired elementary school teacher, and currently owns her own glass mosaic studio. She lives in Gibsonia with her husband, Steve, and her yellow lab, Luna Lovegood.


Jessica has been working in Millvale at our neighboring tea shop, Abeille Voyante Tea Co., since 2018, and joined the MCL board in 2023. After her experience working with and welcoming refugees who started to relocate to Millvale with support of the library in 2022, she has created a program that functions out of the library and tea shop focused on supporting our new neighbors. Jessica’s main area of focus is on community engagement and helping community members access resources.
Brian Spoales has been the Mayor of Millvale since 2018, bringing a lifelong connection to the Borough. His early experiences, from setting up duck pins at the St. Anthony Lyceum to working at the local Green Sheet newspaper, instilled a strong sense of Community. Today, he continues to serve Millvale while working as a Contract Specialist in the General Counsel’s University Contracts office at Carnegie Mellon University. Mayor Spoales is passionate about volunteering within Millvale and deeply values the friendships he’s cultivated through his dedication to the town.
